2010 LOOKING BEAUTIFUL. METS CRUSH PHILLIES.
From Metsblog.com: The first-place Mets (14–9) defeated the third-place Phillies (12–10) by the score of 9 to 1 in Philadelphia tonight.

The Mets have won eight games in a row, and 10 of their last 11.

For a full recap and boxscore, go to SNY.TV.

  • David Wright, Rod Barajas, Jeff Francoeur, and again Rod Barajas all hit home runs for the Mets, who scored three runs in the second inning and four runs in the seventh.
  • Angel Pagan had three hits, including a two-RBI triple.
  • Jon Niese let up one run and four hits in seven innings, for his first win of the season.

niese looked great… at one point, he retired 14 hitters in a row…

Jeff Francoeur is playing an outstanding right field… not just with his glove, but especially with his arm… he hustles, cuts the ball down, and is doing a tremendous job keeping runners from advancing to extra bases… he made an outstanding throw, and later an even better catch, both of which kept Jason Werth idle at first base, when he easily should’ve scored…

…there were home runs, outstanding pitching, lots of hustle, strong defense, but, honestly, i think my favorite part of the game was watching Jenrry Mejia make Ryan Howard look silly with a 96–mph fastball and two wicked curve balls…

…speaking of mejia, francoeur was drilled on the forearm by a pitch from Danys Baez… later in the game, mejia plunked Chase Utley on the calf… i don’t know if he did it on purpose, in retaliation, but i’m glad it happened… a) get off the plate, and b) eye for eye, buddy…

…the Mets looked to show no fear tonight, and i liked it… the important thing, for me, is, the Phillies had to be up after their comeback win the night before against the Giants… the Mets so easily could have let up tonight, with the Phillies riding high… instead, the Mets dominated from the first pitch… which, at least for one night, is a far cry from how things played out the last few seasons…

…this was great, but keep the pedal to the metal, guys… don’t let up

The Mets continues their three-game series with the Phillies tomorrow at 3:10 pm on FOX, with Mike Pelfrey (4-0, 0.69 ERA) taking on Roy Halladay (4-1, 1.80 ERA).

  1. How do you feel now?

It's been a fun two days.

...Halladay looked great...at one point, he didn't give up a run for an entire game.

...Johan Santana is performing terribly...not just with his pitch location, but with his concentration and ability to retire 47-year-old pitchers...he allows grand slams, he walks guys with the bases loaded...he made some terrible pitches, especially when Jamie Moyer walked in a run to lead to Shane Victorino's grand slam...

...there were home runs, outstanding pitching, lots of hustle, strong defense, but, honestly, i think my favorite part of the game was watching the mets and their fans absolutely quit after the phillies ripped their hearts out in a nine-run fourth inning...

...speaking of the mets, they completely died after the fourth inning...afterward, they didn't record one hit...i don't know if they did that on purpose, but i'm glad it happened...a) get off our field, and b) the mets suck, buddy...

...the mets looked like a deer in headlights tonight, and i loved it...the important thing, for me, is the mets had to be up after their big win on friday...the phillies could have easily let up tonight, with the mets riding high...instead, the phillies showed why they've won a world series title and a national league title and three straight division titles...which, at least for the last three years, is a far cry from how things have played out in the mets' clubhouse...

...this was great, beating the mets for the FIFTH consecutive series...don't let up...

    johan santana: 3.2 IP, 10 ER, L

who is the best starter in the national league east? it's no contest.

  2. the Mets are the unrivaled kings of shitting the bed. as a Mets fan...does it ever get old having to eat shit and walk away the dejected loser...after the game, the series, the season? blame yourselves for unrealistic expectations. Mets are a wildcard team AT BEST...third or fourth in the NL East is a more appropriate expectation for the 2010 club. BOTH of your aces just shat their pants on the mound against the Phillies. Santana looked like he was about to cry in the dugout. And THEN, insult to injury, you dipshit losers get beat by the REDS the next day. Erm...the REDS, buddy.

I'll grant the Miracle Mets were a great story, a great piece of baseball history. But the '86 Mets were a crackhouse den of iniquity and shooting-star talent. The most recent triumph in franchise history was an epic highwater mark of bed shitting. The franchise is pathetic from top to bottom. Also noteworthy is the trade of NOLAN RYAN and 3 OTHERS PLAYERS to the Angels for... ... ...jim fregosi?! again, classic log in the bed.
